#1 - Access
When looking at the blueprints you must ensure that they allow you a means of entry to the inside of the barn throughout the seasons. So make sure that you select a location to put your hay barn where the earth around won't become too muddy when the weather turns inclement. Plus, obviously, you must ensure that there is plenty of space adjacent to the structure to allow you to maneuver vehicles in and out of it with little difficulty.
#2 - Seepage
It is critical that the property where the barn is to be constructed has great drainage so that no storm water is able to collect around it. Plus any water you have going into the barn should be diverted away from it. If you can construct the barn on some property that is somewhat sloped, that would really be beneficial to the barn. Also, it would ensure that any water will not be absorbed by the lumber in the shed which may cause it to rot and have to be repaired.
#3 - Building Orientation
It is very important that you make sure that you look at which direction the wind blows towards where you are intending to construct your shed. Then, using your hay barn plans, make sure that the doorway to it is placed on the side opposite to where the wind will be strongest. Not only will this ensure that the items within the barn are protected, it is going to cut back the amount of wind loads placed on it.
If you decide to use free barn plans, or attempt to construct the barn with no plans, you're going to have to figure all of these things out by yourself, which could be disastrous.
